Embutidos Luis Gil presents new packaging for its organic products, reducing its use of plastic by 80%

Fresh meat and sausages #unitedforsustainability

Embutidos Luis Gil, an organic livestock and meat and sausage production company boasting eco-certification, presents a new packaging line at Alimentaria that reduces its use of plastic by 80% in the packaging of its filleted fresh meat and sliced cured meat products. A trailblazer for its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

This new laminated packaging combines responsibly-sourced paper with significant barrier functions through a flexible film that blocks oxygen while maintaining aromas, thus facilitating the preservation of fresh products in an optimal state. All the paper used in this new format is FSC© certified, from responsibly managed forests and composed only of 100% recycled fibres.

Embutidos Luis Gil is a unique project in Spain, recognised with the Spanish Biosphere Reserve award in the Social and Sustainable Economic Development category for its environmental commitment. This award is promoted by the Ministry of the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge through the Spanish Biosphere Reserves Network. In addition, during its participation in Alimentaria, Embutidos Luis Gil will brandish the #unitedforsustainability seal, which certifies its environmental commitment, as well as bringing together companies with sustainable initiatives that also commit to reducing the environmental impact of their presence at the fair.

In addition to this initiative, Embutidos Luis Gil has implemented various sustainable practices over the years, including the use of clean energy and rainwater recycling. These measures reflect the company’s commitment to fighting climate change and environmental challenges, while offering its consumers high-quality organic products.

Embutidos Luis Gil’s organic agriculture and livestock project takes place in the Ocón Valley, in La Rioja, an area of great beauty and ecological value. The Encinar de Ocón farm is home to the olive trees from which La Merendola organic EVOO is extracted, in addition to its 100% Duroc pigs, which are raised sustainably and fed an organic diet.
